Today we are going to be taking a look at the Hopkins Plug In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-pole flat trailer connector. This plug fits a 2006 to 2010 Jeep Commander. It's going to provide a 4-way flat connector at the back of the vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. This is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters. The adapters are sold separate, and it's going to come with a dust cap for the 4-way flat connector, that way you can cover up the connection points on that plug when it's not being used. The black box right here, this is the included taillight converter. This is going to insure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's.

The powered module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. The unit is going to connect quickly and easily. You don't have to worry about cutting or splicing any wires. Just locate the connection points behind the taillights. One of the connectors is going to go to the driver's side, the other one goes to the passenger side.

Again, this is a custom fit harness, so the plugs on the harness are going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle. Locate the connection points, plug in your connectors. They are going to snap lock together for a nice, tight, secure fit. You will then need to make a ground connection. That is the white wire with the ring terminal attached to it.

You want to get it grounded to a nice clean metal location with the included grounding screw. Mount your converter box to an out of the way location using the included cable ties. You are then ready to run your hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is the red wire right here. It has a butt connector attached to it. This gets connected to one end of the bundle of wiring.

The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery. It gets connected to the one half of the fuse holder here at the butt connector. The other half of the fuse holder has a ring terminal attached to it. That gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. The kit also comes with a 15 amp fuse, goes directly into the fuse holder, and it's got that cap on there that would shut over it to keep it safe and protected. You can then secure the excess, or slack, in the wiring that you may have with the included cable ties. Once your installation is complete, the 4-way connectors are going to be stowed underneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. We do want to recommend using a mounting bracket to keep the connectors secure and easily accessible. Mounting brackets are sold separately. It is also recommended that you use a small amount of the included terminal grease. You apply that to the electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself.
