Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit Installation - 2018 Ford Focus

Hello, everybody Clayton here, etrailer.com. Here at etrailer, we install, test, and review a lot of different products to help you as a customer make a more educated decision before your purchase. Today, we are going to be working on a 2018 Ford Focus. We're going to be taking a look at, and I'll be showing you how to install Roadmaster's stoplight switch. Our stoplight switch is going to send a signal to our indicator light or our Coachlink system, in this case, letting us know that the brakes are being applied, and how this works is there's a little plunger that hits the brake pedal arm and that's compressed whenever it's touching the arm. When that brake pedal pushes down that plunger extends sending the signal.

Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2018 Ford Focus

Ryan: How's it going, Ryan here etrailer.com today on our 2018 Ford focus, we'll be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Demco Stay-IN-Play supplemental braking system. Now there's going to be five main components needed to flat tow your focused on the road. They're going to include a base plate, a tow bar, tow bar wiring, a braking system and safety cable. So braking system, isn't something you're just going to need to not only be legal and safe, but it's also going to help prevent, wear and tear on the motor home. That's because without that braking system, it's the motor homes entire responsibility to not only stop itself, but also stopped out on the car behind it. And that can put a lot of wear and tear on the brakes, suspension components, all that type of stuff.

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2018 Ford Focus

Today on our 2018 Ford Focus, we're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to show you how I installed the SMI Air Force One supplemental braking system for motor homes with air brakes, part number SM99243. The Air Force One is going to allow you to safely flat-tow your Ford behind your motor home. The other four are going to be your base plate, your tow bar, your safety cables, and your wiring. This system's going to be a proportional system, which means when you apply the brakes from the RV, it's going to match that amount of pressure and apply them in the towed vehicle. The air pressure from the motor home, when the brakes are applied, is forced into the towed vehicle, pushed in through the actuator, which in turn applies the brake pedal. Our L bracket with our air fitting here at the front of the vehicle, this gets an air line attached to our RV. When the brakes are applied in the RV, the air pressure is transferred through our line, through our system, to our actuator, in turn applying the brakes. You're also going to have a tether that comes in your kit.

Best 2018 Ford Focus Tow Bar Braking System Options

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the best supplemental braking system for your 2018 Ford Focus. Whenever we're flat towing our Focus, a supplemental braking system is going to be a key component, not only because it is required by law in most places, but we don't want to rely on our motor home to slow itself down and now the extra weight of our Focus. That supplemental braking system is going to allow our Focus to slow itself down, reducing the time and distance that it takes us to stop.Which braking system is going to be right for you is really going to come down to three major things: how long you're going to keep your Focus, what kind of brakes are on your motor home, and if you want to have an easier installation with more repetitive steps after the fact or if you'd rather have a more intensive installation with nothing to do after that. Here we're going to have the Roadmaster InvisiBrake. Then over here we're going to have the Stay-IN-Play DUO. Both of these are going to take the brake signal from our motor home and use that to apply the brakes on our Focus. Now where they're going to differ is our InvisiBrake is going to get that signal and it's going to have a preset amount that it's going to apply to the brakes.

Blue Ox Patriot Proportional Braking System Installation - 2018 Ford Focus

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2018 Ford Focus, we're going be taking a look at the Blue Ox Patriot 2, radio frequency, portable breaking system, part number BRK2016. Keep in mind, for complete safe flat tow set up, you're going to need a base plate, two bar, tow bar wiring, and a braking system. Our Patriot 2's going to have a monitor, that way we can always know what's going on with our Focus while we're driving down the road. We're going to be able to go through the menu, set the sensitivity, as well as the maximum force, and a few other things. And then also, from here, we're going to have the force, which we'll be able to set, resuming the initial force that it's going to be working at, going all the way up to nine, and down to zero. Now for night driving, we do have a back light, that's going to be on here. It's going to be kind of hard to see, because it is during the day, but that backlight is going to illuminate the screen just a little bit, but not blind you while you're driving. Now, if we ever get in a situation where our Focus starts swaying behind our motor home, and we don't want to apply the brakes on the motor home itself, but we want our Focus to slow down.
