Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Equinox

Hey, everybody. How's it going Today, we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the Demco Stay-IN-Play supplemental braking system here on our 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. So a supplemental braking system is gonna be a required component for a flat tow setup in most states over a certain weight. Our Equinox here is probably gonna exceed those in just about every state, so it's a safe thing to say that this is gonna be a requirement to flat tow this vehicle. Now, what this actually does is, and the reason we need it, it's gonna apply the brakes here in our towed vehicle while we're driving our motor home. And that's important, it's 'cause it's gonna allow us to come to a smooth and effective stop.

Best 2016 Chevrolet Equinox Flat Tow Setup Options

Hi there, Equinox owners. Today we're going to be taking a look at the best flat tow options for your 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. There's five main components you'll need when flat towing your vehicle behind your motor home. You'll need your tow bar, which is the connection between your motor home and your vehicle, your safety cables, which is a supplemental connection in addition to your tow bar, your baseplate, which provides a connection point at the front of your vehicle, your diode wiring, which takes all the lighting signals from your motor home and transfers them to the lights at the back of your vehicle so people around you know your intentions when going down the road, and lastly your supplemental braking system, which will apply the brakes in your vehicle when you hit the brakes in your motor home to help it come to a safe stop. Our customers decided to use Blue Ox's baseplate, which is a great baseplate. But, however, I would recommend Roadmaster's direct-connect baseplate kit. I find that the Roadmaster baseplate just has a little bit cleaner installation and provides better connection points when mounting your hardware such as your electrical and breakaway switch. Our customer opted for Roadmaster's Falcon 2 tow bar.

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Equinox

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, you're going to be taking a look at, and I'm going to show you how to install the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99251.The SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO is going to be a proportional braking system. What that means is when you apply the brakes in the RV, the system you have installed in the car is going to apply the brakes in the Equinox. Now, let's go a little bit deeper than that. When you touch your brakes in your RV, lightly touch them, the brakes in your car are going to match that amount of pressure. If you have to slam on your brakes in your RV, maybe an emergency situation, the system is going to apply the same amount of force in your Equinox so that your car or your towed vehicle slows itself down. Your RV is not going to have to do all the work.So once you have your car hooked up to your RV, what you're going to do is you're going to come down to your g-force controller. You're going to turn it on.

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Equinox

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the SMI Air Force One supplemental braking system for motor homes with air brakes, part number SM99243. Here's what the Air Force One is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, everything is nice and compact and up out of the way so it's not in the way of the driver's seat at all. It's going to be permanently installed so that this air cylinder will be the only thing in the brake pedal and you won't have to take anything or out in order to press the brake pedal. The air cylinder is pulled down by a cable mounted to the firewall and it uses the pressure from the air brakes to depress it. This is a proportional braking system, so the harder you apply the brakes in the motor home, the harder it will apply the brakes in the towed vehicle. The system comes with a breakaway switch and when you pull the breakaway switch, it will activate the brakes on the towed vehicle and that way if your vehicle ever comes disconnected from the motor home, it will pull it safely to a stop.
