Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - RM-751439

  • Stop Light Switch
  • Roadmaster

Avoid damage to your vehicle by ensuring that your supplemental braking system is properly positioned and working effectively. Kit activates your RV monitoring system to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.

Features:

  • Activates motorhome brake-monitoring system whenever brake pedal in towed car is applied
    • Ensures that the supplemental braking system is functioning properly
  • Works great for any application that does not have a tow position in the ignition
  • Wires directly into towed car's fuse box for constant current
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • 12 Volts
  • Application: custom fit for your vehicle

This kit allows your RV's monitoring system to alert you whenever the brake pedal of your towed car is being applied. Other systems operate according to whether the air cylinder is extended and provide no indication of what is happening with the pedal itself. If your supplemental braking system is improperly installed, it may be continuously pressing on the pedal, impeding it from fully retracting and possibly causing damage to your vehicle's tires and braking system. With Roadmaster's Stop Light Switch Kit, you will always know when the brake is being depressed, and you will avoid costly damage.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Roadmaster's line of custom stoplight switch kits. You'll want to refer to our fit guide for the appropriate switch kit for your vehicle. Here on our motor home we have our indicator light that's connected to our stoplight switch. When this light illuminates, we know that our braking system that is installed is applying the brake pedal in our towed vehicle. And we're going to get this signal thanks to our stoplight switch. Here when I hit the brake in our motor home, the light's illuminated so I know that our braking system is working properly. This stoplight switch is going to provide you with an additional brake stop signal. This is important if you're flat towing a vehicle that doesn't have a brake signal when in tow mode.

Without a signal you'll have no way of monitoring whether or not your brake pedal is being depressed. You can use this stoplight switch to connect to the indicator that comes with your supplemental braking system so you can verify for sure that your brake pedal's being depressed when you hit the brakes in your motor home.In most instances it'll be well hidden or blend in with the rest of the wiring down below so you won't even notice it. Here you can barely even glimpse the switch itself. And the kit comes with everything you need to get it installed. This includes the switch, the wiring, the fuse and the custom bracket that's specifically made for it to mount right onto your vehicle.

The bracket's really what makes it custom for your vehicle. It allows the switch to mount seamlessly and easily adjusts to the contour of your brake pedal.A less common use is for a brake controller. If your vehicle doesn't have a compatible brake signal for your brake controller then you can install one of these and get that signal for your brake controller to easily hook up to your trailer. And that completes our look at Roadmaster's line of custom stoplight switch kits.

This switch was a perfect fit for my 2017 Equinox. I followed the instructions on the etrailer video and it worked just perfect. It is much better than trying to find the brake switch wire in the vehicle wire bundle like I did for my previous vehicle. Kudos on the great videos available to help with installation. 590600

Very easy installation with directions provided. On the Chevrolet Equinox this Stop Light Switch eliminates the need to install a relay. It will operate the brake lights in my Even Brake 9400 supplementary braking system. I recommend this Kit to make your supplementary braking system work. 388078

I'am in the process of setting up my 2017 Equinox to tow behind our motorhome. I've placed 4-orders with etrailer. So far I've installed the base plate, the wiring from the rear tail lights to the front end.I also received my Tow bar and the quick release parts. my next project is to install the invisi brake system. I want to send Kudos to Cathy T for her help and her great customer service. I'am also thanking James A for his quick response to a question about the wiring harness. I'am extremely happy with the quality of everything I ordered at etrailer. Thanks 417913

The stop light switch kit is performing as expected. The installation is a little more difficult than what is shown. I ended up installing the switch to the bracket and then installing the bracket to the car. I have not replaced the cover-up panel under the dash installed in the car at the factory as it was damaged when removing it. 446939

Your customer service leaves nothing lacking, and this follow-up from you is so out of character for the many web sites I have purchased from over the years. I am impressed by you and your company. I bought the tow bar and the brake system for my Equinox, and installed them my self (I am 70 years old) - and with your provided instructions and video, I had no problems (even though I was surprised by the number of parts and detail that went into the assemblies). Both systems have worked very well, with no problems. I am completely satisfied with them, and have told my friends and traveling acquaintances about your company. Thanks for your follow-up! 382386

Ask the Experts about this Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems

  • Even Brake Supplemental Braking System Not Functioning on a 2012 Chevy Equinox
First, if you are not using the stop light switch kit # RM-751439 it is required for proper functioning of the Even Brake, # RM-9400, on the 2012 Equinox. It sounds as if the switch, if it is being used, is either not hooked up properly or the wiring between it and the monitor in the motor home is not connected. When it does its test and presses the brake pedal, it is not sensing the brake switch kit. The fuse issue is a common complaint but there is a solution. Just install a fuse bypass,...

I called my contact at Roadmaster about the # RM-9400 and the troubleshooting message you keep getting. They told me that you need to check the green wire that is coming out of the # RM-751452 switch. You should only show current when the brake pedal is depressed. If you are not showing current, then the switch is probably bad or it has shorted out and needs to be replaced.
