Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Tow-Rax Battery Box

Today, we'll be reviewing part number TWSP12BP, this is the Tow Racks battery box with a nice polished aluminum finish. This battery case is going to safeguard your battery from the elements; it's also going to protect your trailer or work area should the battery leak. This can also be used as a storage box for a lot of different types of items. You get the built-in latch openings that's going to allow you to install the latch system and secure the lid to the box. On the underside of the lid, you have a nice rubberized gasket seal. It's going to form a nice fit. It's made from a durable lightweight aluminum construction with a nice polished finish.

Go over the measurements; I measured 12 inches in length, 8 and 5/8s of an inch in width, and then we're going to have 10 and 7/16s of an inch in total height. What you're going to get is 4 hex nuts, 2 lock notch, 4 flat washers, 4 smaller lock nuts, 2 latch assemblies, 4 of the smaller screws to secure those latch assemblies to the side of the box, a clear PVC tubing, the 2 threaded rods, a 90 degree elbow, 2 rubber grommets, the nylon nut, the battery hold-down bracket, and then you're going to get the battery box and the battery lid. You can see the different holes that go around the battery box. You've got the 2 over here with a slot up here, it's going to be the same on this side. That's for the latch assembly. You have the 2 holes here up front.

The rubber grommets are going to get installed in there, that's going to allow you to bring out your battery cables. Here at the rear you have a hole and that's designed for the drain system. See the bottom of the box, you don't have any holes or anything down there. Again, you have a nice Tow Racks battery box made from aluminum construction with that nice polished finish. That's going to do it for our review of part number TWSP12BP. This is the Tow Racks battery box.

Exactly what I was looking for. Clean and well built to house battery. I just couldn't imagine strapping some black, plastic box to my recently rebuilt front end on my vintage trailer to house the battery.

by:

If you want a good looking sturdy, waterproof battery box this is it. A little pricey but still looks like new after thousands of miles on the front of my camper.

by:

Very solid. Exceeded my expectations. I was planning on using this box as a step as well and was worried about the sturdiness of the top. It is good. I can put all 200 pounds on it and the lid will not bow in to touch a terminal. Nice box. Very shiny.

Our application for this was a bit different than most. We have a power gate that requires a car battery for power; to protect it from theft or vandalism, we felt we needed a metal battery box, which we modified substantially for this purpose. It looks good and is far stronger and more durable than any of the plastic boxes commonly available. We attached the box to the inside of a concrete wall beside the gate, and it looks fine. It hasn't been "tested" as far as the vandalism is concerned (knock on wood!) but we think that the fact that it's metal discourages tampering; so far, so good.

I know it's only a battery box. However, I'm a hot rodder and a do it yourself guy. This box is perfect for my trailer and any other battery enclosure I need for any application. Very well built and has some great features. etrailer.com is the only I shop for trailer accessories or parts. And I have 4 of them.

by:

A simple product but very high quality. Fit and finish were excellent. I painted mine to match the frame of the trailer I mounted it on but it was not necessary to paint it. It looks elegant. It is lightweight but sturdy with good gaskets to prevent water penetration.

by:

EXCELLENT! USED ON MY 85 CUSHMAN TRUCKS TER.

by:

I am very pleased with the product.

by:

The battery box I bought was for a car hauler it was plenty big enough for the battery and it worked just fine

by:

My pop-up didn't come with a battery so this worked out nice for adding one. Nice quality and quick shipping with etrailer.

by:

I had a good idea where I was going to put it and how I want to mounted the installation went great It worked perfect on my car hauler

by:

Great battery box kit, very complete along with good installation diagram.

by:

When I added a generator to the rear of my Toyota Sunrader RV, it blocked access to the camper's battery. And so we re-wired it and put it on the front bumper inside the Tow-Rax Battery Boxe. Master welder Casey Flack custom made the tubular frame, which also serves as a bumper. The added weight on the front offsets the generator's weight, which is another benefit. The rig draws a crowd wherever I travel.

This is a nice quality product at a fair price- I'm 100% satisfied with the product; everything about it went smoothly... from ordering through QC- I would highly recommend this product-

by:

In my opinion this item is overpriced for the quality of the box. It would be a good buy at half price. I had to trim the latch screws and the latches are soft metal. There's nowhere to mount the battery hold down without drilling holes in the bottom of the box. The lid seals had to be trimmed to make the lid seal. But I guess there's no sense in a lid seal anyway if you're going to drill holes in the bottom of the box.

After a year its still working fine. My opinion hasnt changed as far as the value. If I were the buyer at retailer I might look for a different vendor. Still too expensive.

by:

Good product. 2mm walls ( as measured by an imprecise metric ruler ), are sturdy and have a good heft. Associated hardware is of good quality and the lid seals well. Mirror shine.

It would be nice if an option were provided to secure the container from opportunistic theft.

by:

Outstanding product. I needed a battery box for my RV A frame. Other boxes were too big for the application. It fit like a glove with the slide-out. Perfect!

by:

This box was welded together nicely and had a mirror finish. I am putting this on a boat trailer and wish there were a way to lock it, but other than that it is top notch.

by:

put it on the tongue of my boat trailer and used a lawnmower battery for electric winch. Can keep cords inside box also when traveling.

by:

Well made quality product as advertised. Well packed for shipping and product arrived undamaged.

I modified the battery box to replace the battery mount fixture on my 1956 Chevrolet which dressed up the engine bay.

  • Recommended Battery for Bulldog Winch # 15019
For the Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch - Wire Rope - Roller Fairlead - 4,400 lbs # BDW15019 the battery requirements are simply 12V and exceeding the max power draw of the winch at 340 amps. We have numerous battery boxes, see link below, some are smaller than the battery size you have and some are larger. The box you end up with will most likely have at least one physical dimension that is much larger than the same dimension on the battery. For example the Tow-Rax battery box # TWSP12BP is 12 inches long, 8-5/8 inches wide, and 10-7/16 inches tall. Plenty of space for the battery and any wiring going to/from it. A plastic box such as # DW03188 is a good option as well. It...
