Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the TowSmart Baja Collection Ball Mount with the 1 7/8 Inch Hitch Ball for 2 Inch Hitches. Offers a 2 inch drop or a 3/4 inch rise. Has a 5,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this ball mount will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle.
The shank right back here is what'll slide into your vehicle's 2 inch hitch receiver, and you'll secure it in place in the receiver using this included pin and clip. Hitch pin diameter is 5/8 of an inch. But basically what you'll do is slide this in your receiver, line the holes up so they match up, slide your pin all the way through, clip it, and you're all ready to go. Now we do also offer hitch locks if you want extra security that you can lock it in place. Those we do sell separately on our website.
Now the hitch ball right here, this will provide the connection point for your trailer's coupler. The diameter on this ball is 1 7/8 inches. Now also this ball mount, if you look, is designed with a unique X-shape shank so that the water can drain out of the receiver when this is installed, preventing it from seizing up. Now we mentioned this will offer both a drop and rise position to ensure level towing. The drop would be if it's installed in this position, and the drop is measured from the top of the shank here to the top of the ball platform, so it'll get you a 2 inch drop.
Now if you do flip it over and install it in the rise position like this, it'll get you a 3/4 inch rise which again is measured from top here to top here. But if you notice the ball, you do have to un-break the ball, loosen the nut, and then flip it over and then re-torque it down to use it in the rise position. But when you do that, I do want to mention, we're gonna zoom in a little bit. We're gonna talk about they offer a lockrail system on this. You can see if I zoom in, you may be able to see, but on the edge here, they have these raised sections, and they call that a lockrail system.
Same way if you flip it in the rise, it has the raised section of the edge. What that does, that allows you, when you put your ball in there, the flats, the wrench flats they call it on the hitch ball, the flat areas on each side, they line up with the lockrail so when you go to tighten it down, you use a wrench on your nut, you don't have to use a second wrench to hold the ball. You can just use this one wrench, and that'll wedge up against the lockrails. So you'll be able to torque it in place. Now this is a durable steel. Has a nice glossy black finish to it to resist rust and corrosion. Again, this fits 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receivers. Gross towing weight capacity of 5,000 pounds, tongue weight of 500 pounds. And the last thing, I just want to measure the length of the ball mount. And when you measure the length on a ball mount, it's measured from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball. So basically, if we put a ruler on it, you can see center to center is right at 8 1/2 inches for the length. The hitch that I ordered came with a ball and pin that ordinarily one has to purchase separately. That was convenient for me since the price was better than any other option. etrailer.com has been a great source for me in the past and continues to be so.
This particular hitch took longer than normal to receive, but I assume it was coming from the other side of the planet. Apart from that, it was A great purchase.
Looks good but time will tell. Should include instructions as to what to do and remove the plastic insert in the pin hole.

Ball did not fit my trailer. I chose to not just replace the ball. Had been gifted the right sized ball literally by the Lord himself. Day B4 this one arrived. Was with items a neighbor was discarding! Talk about Him running ahead and providing even before I pray for it! He does that so often especially when Iam doing my best to obey Him in areas I struggle with. He's so amazing!

Flipped this mount upside down for the rise. Leveled out my little trailer just fine. If your bumper is too thick, this might be too short. Worked well with my ‘26 Equinox EV.
Great quality, the 1.25” hitch has a x design shaft which significantly reduces the chance of it getting stuck inside your hitch and insuring a tight fit without the wiggle and clunk that other brands and designs have. Great purchase!
