Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt battery box for breakaway kits. The replacement battery case is going to house and protect your trailer breakaway battery and charger. This is a top loading case that's very easy to access from above. It does have a small hole where the lid and the box meet that way you can run your wires through there. The lid is going to be held on to the box with a plastic tether strap. It's going to be this piece right here that way you don't have to be worried about misplacing or losing the lid.
Taking a look at the inside you can see it does have a nice design that's going to accept a variety of breakaway batteries. The unit is lockable here at the tabs. You can look it with a pad lock, now your padlock is sold separately so if you're in need of one, you can find them right here at etrailer.com. The locking the battery box will really deter tampering and theft. The hole where the padlock will install will accept a quarter inch diameter shackle. The box is going to have built in tab style mounting brackets.
It's going to contain four mounting holes those mounting holes are going to have a diameter of about a quarter of an inch. That way it's easily going to install onto your trailers frame. Your hardware is not include. The box itself is made from a weather resistant polyethylene construction. It's going to do a great job of protecting your battery and charger from moisture and debris. It's also going to have a couple of holes here on the bottom.
These are going to have a diameter of five sixteenth of an inch. They are going to separated apart from one another on center by one and seven sixteenths of an inch. We're going to take a look at the overall dimensions of the box, starting with the overall length. Just measuring the box portion it's going to measure about six inches. If we do take a measurement of the overall length from the outer edge to outer edge here at the mounting tabs that's going to measure about seven and a half inches. The overall height of the box, measuring top to bottom, that's going to give us a measurement of about five and a half inches tall.
Measuring the with of just the box portion that's going to be about three and one quarter of an inch. If we include the tab here at the back that's going to increase that measurement to about three and three quarters of an inch. Now when it comes to the mounting holes, these are going to be separated apart from one another on center going this direction, here at the bottom set, probably about six and fifteen, sixteenths of an inch. Here at the top set, we're looking center on center about seven inches. Going this direction the holes are going to be separated apart from one another on center by about two and fifteen, sixteenths of an inch. That's going to do it for today's review of the Curt battery box for breakaway kits.

The battery box arrived in a well package box and is sturdy and perfect for my project.
Breakaway Battery Box for trailer. Hold a 12 volt AGM Battery. Very durable black plastic material. This is a replacement box for one that had been in place for a OEM unit that is 14 years old. The strap that hold the top broke on my old unit. Simple installation, remove old bolts / screws holding existing box and reinstall using existing hardware. There is no attachment screws /bolts supplied with the new box.
Had damaged my battery box moving a trailer into the barn. I was pleased to find I didn't have to buy a new break away kit. The box is exactly what I needed. Even the mounting holes are in the same place. Will work great!

my battery box is working great!
The product is ok but the review is for the Customer Service Agent Danielle P responsible for resolving issues with these Trailer Breakaway Battery Boxes. Excellent technical / professional job performed in a very timely manner. Shipping also quite good. Box is just a box. The CS Agent is Excellent! Hope it gets filtered and passed on as appropriate?
I measured my 9AH UPS backup battery and it seemed to be a fit for the inside box dimension specs. When I got it the width and height were okay, but the battery box gets slightly narrower in length as it goes toward the bottom and it jammed with my battery sticking 1" above the top. I had to modify the box by cutting the botton off an inch and putting a short slit on each end. I don't know anything about the intended application or what size battery it uses, but my modification works for me. It is a very well crafted box, though. If you need one for a "breakaway kit" and know the battery you use will fit, you will probably 5-star it.
Went to 4 local trailer dealers/manufacture facilities looking for battery box and breakaway kit. All I found was box/battery/switch/tester unit for [3 times the price], found etrailer.com and found exactly what I was looking for, [price] bucks and the items are quality.
It worked well. It wasn't made for the size battery I had. I had to remove some fins on the inside of the box to accommodate my battery. The lid tends not to stay closed tight due to interference of wires leaving the box.
The battery box worked great and perfect to keep the small rechargeable battery to run the 12v water pump in a custom hotdog cart/trailer i built
Bought this box and the Curt brand box as there was a slight difference in measurements. I could buy both, shipped to my door, for the cost of one locally, which they did not have in stock and I would have to wait a week to get anyway. Etrailer is the best!
