Raw Lumens vs. Effective Lumens vs Stable Lumens

Lumens are used to measure the amount of usable light that is put out by a light source. Raw lumens represent the number of lumens that the manufacturer claims the LEDs are capable of producing. It does not include the light's drive method or the amount of light lost from the lens or reflector. Effective lumens take these factors into account and represent the number of lumens that are actually produced by the complete light assembly, not just the amount of light that the diodes are capable of producing. Stable lumens builds off the idea of effective lumens by measuring the amount of light produced after 30 minutes of usage, or once the diodes have reached their average operating temperature. These bulbs have a 645 raw lumen capacity per bulb and produce 600 effective lumens per bulb. The stable lumen capacity per bulb is 487 lumens.

Video Transcript for How to Set Up Your 7440/7443 LED Bulbs on a 2009 Acura RDX

Brad Hello neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today on our 2009 Acura RDX we'll be installing and taking a look at the ARC lighting replacement, LED tail light bulb. Now this is gonna be a great replacement for your tail lights. And this one specifically is gonna be for your 7440 and your 7443 bulbs. And it's gonna be a direct replacement that pops in and gives you great light right out the gate.

So now we have our LED on our passenger's side and the regular incandescent on the driver's side. We're gonna be able to see the big difference here. So I'll go ahead and hit my brakes. Here, you can see our brake light illuminated and the great part about the LEDs is it's a nice clean light. It's also giving off 600 lumens and this one has LEDs 360 degrees.

So in a housing like this it really does project that light really well giving it a cleaner and modern look compared to your incandescent lights, but also, you'll get more of an efficient use of your electricity as your LEDs take less and produce more light. So great upgrade for your vehicle. If your tail light burns out, you might as well move up to an LED and the lifespan generally will be longer from the incandescent as well. Now you can see here on our passenger's side when I hit the brakes that the actual brake light portion of the bulb is burnt out. So that can be a safety issue if people can't see that both the lights are illuminating it kind of lessens the chance that they'll see us.

So we're gonna go ahead and replace that. Now we're gonna be changing out the bulb on an Acura RDX and yours may be different to gain access to the bulb. Sometimes you will have to remove the tail light. Sometimes you can pull your interior panel back and gain access to the bulb. kind of depends on the manufacturer, but changing the bulb out's gonna be the same concept.

So we're gonna go ahead and gain access to our bulb and I'll show you how to do the changing of it. So I've gone ahead and pulled our tail light out and it's gonna be generally kind of similar to this one where you're gonna have a plug that goes into the bulb but sometimes it's easier to keep that attached. So you have leverage to twist this and you're gonna see this one, it's seen better days. It is burnt out. One of the coils is still fine. It's working there, but when we hit our brake lights it's not, so normally, good rule of thumb when installing bulbs you don't really want to touch them, more so on headlights but just something to keep in mind. This one's burnt, so it doesn't really matter. But putting it in, just kinda be careful or wear some gloves, so your oil doesn't get on it. So with the LEDs, it's not as crucial to not touch the bulbs. In fact, you can see this one's actually protected with a nice little cap, but just again, rule of thumb to always, you know, touch these light bulbs with protection because your finger oils as they get heated up will actually cause the bulb to break sometimes. But as you can see, that just pops in place. You can do it either way. Doesn't really matter because the way that the pins are designed like you can go either way and it's gonna work. So we'll just push this in place, make sure it's snapped in. And then we'll go ahead and put this back. And sometimes there's gonna be notches that are different sizes. So we have one large one, just align those. And then twist that. And that should be in place. So we'll go ahead and test it before we get this all buttoned up just to see how it looks. So now I have my running lights on and we can see that the low beam is working. So the next thing to check is when you hit the brake pedal it should have that high beam illuminate nice and bright. Now that we know that it's working properly we can go ahead, button this all back up and then replace the other side, so it's matching. And that was a look and installation of the ARC lighting replacement, LED bulb for the 7440 and 7443 on a 2009 Acura RDX..

The last bulbs converted to LED. The stove light is so handy in my trailer but it was more wattage than i wanted to burn. These bulbs are brighter, longer life and importantly, less wattage.

These are great bulbs that produce a very white bright light. I would guess they produce twice the light as a normal incandescent bulb.

Planned to use these in a surface mount license plate light fixture. Much longer and thicker at the light end than the existing 193 bulb - it was obvious this one would not fit due to clearance issues. Not worth the time/effort/shipping cost to return for refund, so will hang onto them for potential future applications.

I ordered 2 types of LED bulbs to replace the incandescent bulbs in my old camper. The shipment arrived quickly and was just as I ordered. While one of the bulb types was file and worked great, providing more light for less electricity used, the other type did not fit. Note that this was MY fault, etrailer sent me just what I ordered.

As soon as they arrived, I replaced the existing incandescent marker light bulbs on my Coachmen travel trailer with these LED bulbs. When I hooked up the travel trailer to my truck and turned on the lights, the improvement was quite noticeable. The ARC64FR LEDs were much brighter – even in the afternoon sunlight. Quite pleased. Money well spent. Another great product from etrailer.com.

I wanted to replace the old bulbs in my trailer but everywhere I looked they were going to cost me $xx or more per pair. I found etrailer while looking on line for trailer parts and was very surprised how affordable the bulbs were. I ordered all the bulbs in the trailer for less than half the cost I was expecting. This LED replacement completely changed the lighting in my RV for the better. I put them in the main living area and work area and you no longer feel like you are living by flashlight. The only drawback to the replacement bulb is it is slightly wider than glass bulbs and it takes significantly more pressure to insert them. However, they will go in without breaking the fixture. The picture shows the clear difference with both type bulbs in a single fixture.

Picked these up to replace incandescent reading lamps in our motorhome, not sure if they would be suitable. They are good and bright at 600 lumens, and do not heat up like the old ones, which are only inches over our heads when reading. They match our needs perfectly.

Excellent LED bulbs. Durable (can easily touch with fingers), proper 1157 socket design, and wonderfully bright unlike O'Reilly/Autozone-grade 1157 LED replacements (Sylvania, etc.). I only knock off a star for 3+ weeks delay in shipping (I assume it was a stock issue) and because they aren't cheap. Would I use them again though? Well, assuming they last as long as advertised, I may not *have to* on this application!

Put these on an old pontoon boat trailer while doing several upgrades to bring it up to date. Wheels and tires went a long way towards a new look. Happy with them after 1 year.

They are very bright and worked well, however they are a bit longer than the typical 194 LEDs, so if it's in a tight area they won't fit. I was going to use them in my license plate lights but the housing depth was not enough, so I repurposed them for some interior lighting in my truck

  • How To Eliminate Hyper Flashing When Installing LED Bulbs For Turn Signals
    What you are referring to is hyper flashing. Since there is little to no resistance in LED bulbs sometimes your vehicle thinks that the bulb has gone bad because it is not drawing a lot of power. When this happens your bulb starts flashing very fast and you might get the failed turn signal warning light in your truck.   • Will the 7440/7443 LED Bulbs Cause Hyper-Flash
    The 7440/7443 LED Bulbs part # ARC55FR have a built-in technology which allows them to work on most vehicles without creating the hyper-flash issue. Most LED's don't incorporate this same technology so you need load resistors to prevent the issue. The load resistors require splicing so these built-in options are much easier to install. In regards to fit, so long as you verify the bulb type there should not be an issue but there isn't exact make/model specific info available.
