Front Suspension Enhancement Recommendation 2020 Ram 2500 with Heavy Plow

Updated 02/17/2025 | Published 02/16/2025

Question:

I use a 2020 RAM 2500 Big Horn for snow plowing. When I hydraulically lift the 700lb blade, the front of the truck bows considerably and when I set the blade back down, the truck comes back up. I carry about 500lbs of sand in the bed of the truck to help with traction. Going over speed bumps even at crawl speed often causes the front suspension to contact the stops. I realize that adding the weight to the front of the truck is going to cause it to bow some but is it possible to reduce or maybe eliminate this effect? I am reading about air lift and Timbren type systems, what do you suggest to help this situation?

Hey Bob, we have just what you are looking for with the Timbren kit part # TDDF974A. This was designed to fit the front suspension of your 2020 Ram 2500 to provide extra suspension support when carrying plows so it will get rid of the sagging you are seeing when you lift your plow up. Getting a lot of plow work this year? Seems like it's snowing a lot more than usual here.

Thanks for that great response. In reading the info you linked for the Timbren TDDF974A - the description of this device for use with snowplows sounds just what I am looking for. However there is a disturbing comment under the heading of FEATURES that says: Improves suspension, handling and safety Provides additional support as needed so you always have a smooth, comfortable ride {{{{Allows the leaf spring ample movement while cushioning light loads}}}} Becomes more rigid as more weight is added Increases stability - providing great performance while hauling heavy loads Reduces vehicle sag Notice the part I have enclosed in {{{{ }}}} above. I'm fairly certain the front suspension on my 2020 RAM 2500 Big Horn 4x4 uses coil springs while the rear uses leaf springs. Is this an error or perhaps this part is useful for both front and rear suspensions? Thanks again.

@BobW Great question. That happens to be a copy pasted section that was added on the page in error. It's not for leaf spring front suspension.
