Solution for Roof Rack on 2024 Kia Carnival LX With Naked Roof

Updated 01/12/2026 | Published 09/06/2024

Question:

I am looking to install a roof rack / cross bars on a 2024 Kia Carnival minivan LX, which does not have any roof rails. I want to mount a roof cargo box for camping road trips. How do I know if the vehicle has gutters that the Thule will fit? Anyhow, looking for any option.

Hello Jed; you don't have any gutters that you could mount a Thule rack with on your 2024 Kia Carnival. Roof racks like this aren't typically found for a van with a naked roof because of the sliding doors. You have two options for a roof rack, with the first being the installation of tracks from a rack like the # Y02-480B you looked at. The other option is the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack # SEA99FR.

The SeaSucker won't require any drilling or permanent installation since it uses vacuum cups to attach to the roof of the vehicle. It seems a little goofy but it will definitely hold and be able to handle a roof box.

If you decide to install tracks I would measure on the roof to see what fits. If the 63" tracks will fit nicely on the top then the # Y02-480B is a good option. The 54" crossbars from this roof rack are the same length as those recommended by Rhino-Rack for the models with the raised rails.

It would also be a good idea to check with your local dealership to make sure track installation won't be a problem before you go this route. It is a new vehicle and as they add more and more electronics you want to make sure you don't cause unwanted problems if you start drilling.

If it were me, I would get the SeaSucker even though it is more expensive. Since it won't require drilling into the roof of a new vehicle and can be easily removed when you aren't camping/road tripping I feel like that is the best option.

Hey Jed, how did things turn out with the SeaSucker roof rack on your Kia Carnival? Did it hold up well for your camping trips with the cargo box? Your experience could make it easier for others setting up a similar van.
