I have a trailer with a 4 way but my adapter is a 5 way. Will this work?

Hey Max!
Yes, you can still use an adapter like the Tow Ready # 20036 with a trailer that only has a 4-Way connector. You'll just line it up so the ground pin is in the same spot (the one that looks different) and that last pin won't be used.
The 5th pin in a 5-Way connector is used for the reverse function and is typically only used for trailers that have a brake actuator with an electric lockout. There are some other exceptions like if someone wanted to add reverse lights to their trailer, but that's not nearly as common as the actuator setup.
