What is Needed to Attach Front Runner Awning to Rhino Rack Vortex Roof Rack Crossbars

Updated 08/20/2024 | Published 08/05/2024

Question:

We own a 2018 Subaru Forester and have the RHINO-RACK Vortex Bar Roof Rack Crossbar 50 mounted with the Front Runner 2M Easy-Out Awning - Roof Rack Mount. Currently mounted using the Rhino Rack Universal Awning Bracket Kit. My question is how to mount a Front Runner awning quick release mounting kit to the Rhino Rack crossbars to make the awning easier to mount/dismount from the car. I confirmed the FrontRunner kit wont work because I do not have the Slimline platform linked below. Any alternative suggestions? https://www.etrailer.com/Car-Awning/Front~Runner/FR43EJ.html?feed=npnandgad_source=1andgclid=CjwKCAjwqre1BhAqEiwA7g9Qht-fsGIgbAuMg8GgcZWcEIhnA02NWEXZJc-x9mWNAX0hRsuPjgSahRoCOEgQAvD_BwE https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Ford/Transit+T250/2018/RR31111.html https://www.etrailer.com/Roof-Rack/Rhino-Rack/RRVA126B-2.html https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Front-Runner/FR68HJ.html

Hey Michael, the Front Runner Awnin part # FR43EJ that you referenced was designed to attach to the top channels of roof rack crossbars and since your Rhino Rack Vortex roof rack has top channels that means it would attach to it directly without needing any additional adapters or components.

Hey Jameson -- thank you so much for the speedy response and apologies for the delay on my side. I think there may be some confusion as the Rhino roof rack did require the adapters I had mentioned in the previous post which were not included in either of the other packages (we used the Rhino Rack Universal Awning Bracket Kit as I could not find any other kit that would create the L-bracket requirement for the awning AND fit inside the Rhino Vortex rail system). https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Ford/Transit+T250/2018/RR31111.html The primary question I still have is how to mount a Front Runner awning quick release mounting kit to the Rhino Rack crossbars to make the awning easier to mount/dismount from the car. I confirmed the FrontRunner kit wont work because I do not have the Slimline platform linked below. Any alternative suggestions? https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Front-Runner/FR68HJ.html Additional note: It appears the quick-release bracket would require me to have the ability to screw two bolts to the top of the railing system (which doesnt appear to have the ability on the rhino rack crossbars or the Rhino L-bracket adapter linked above) If you tell me this will work, I'll buy the quick release on E-trailer right now! I just worry that it wont work and ill have to ship back the parts... I really appreciate your help with this perdicament -- have a relaxing weekend!

@Michael I read your question a few times to make sure I understood what you are asking and it sounds like you are wanting a quick release setup for the Rhino Rack bars and the awning which there just doesn't appear to be anything like that. You can still attach to the bars but not in a quick release way.

@JamesonC so just to confirm — there is no way for the quick release setup to attach to the rhino rack adapter currently holding the front runner awning?

@Michael correct, there isn't a quick release solution.
