Troubleshooting Backup Camera Not Powering on When Hooked up to LED Trailer Lights

Question:

I have a ATC enclosed trailer with LED lighting, I have tried to wire my backup camera to the LED running lights as they are always on when hooked to the trailer, but the camera will not power on and cannot add to my wifi as it shows not available. Do I need a relay to kick the 12v system? I currently have the power to the hot line and ground to the ground line on the LED harness

Thanks for reaching out, Cory!

It sounds like the power your LED lights are pulling isn't enough to power up your camera. What I recommend doing is hooking the camera up directly to 12V power to see if that makes a difference. If it does then you can use a Lamp-Out Sensor Adapter to get more power pushed to the running light circuit.

Part # 20142 is what you need for a trailer 7-Way, but part # C35FR is for a trailer 4-Way/5-Way. If your vehicle has a 4-Way then you'll need to add a Load Resistor # DI34ZR to the running light circuit wiring to get that extra power.

Worst case scenario you can run a separate 12V wire just for the backup camera if you don't want to use any of the options mentioned above.

How would you go about hooking up the load?Equalizer to the camera and the lighting system. Running a separate twelve volt power wire would be a little difficult with a sealed trailer. How's this one is

@CoryN The load resistors have quick splice connectors with them so you'll clip those over either wire on the load resistor as well as the running light circuit on your trailer.
