Tow Ready Trailer Wiring - 20142

  • Wiring Adapters
  • Single-Function Adapter
  • 7 Round - Blade
  • Plug Only
  • 7 Round - Blade
  • Tow Ready

Designed for use with vehicles that have lamp-out sensors, this adapter ensures that your trailer with LED lights does not trigger any warnings or hyperflashing when hooked up to your vehicle's 7-way, blade-style connector.

Features:

  • Bypasses your vehicle's lamp-out sensor so that you can tow a trailer with LED lights
    • Prevents your vehicle's computer from sensing that a trailer light is burned out, which is how it would normally read the LED lights on the trailer
  • Designed for use with vehicles with Lamp-Out sensors - such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Porsche
  • Plugs into the 7-way, RV-style trailer connector on your vehicle
  • Provides a new 7-way, RV-style trailer connector that works with trailers that have LED lights

If you have a vehicle with a factory tow package that has a lamp-out sensor and you tow a trailer that has LED lights on it, then you've likely experienced hyperflashing and/or false computer errors. Because LEDs pull such a small amount of power, certain sensors are unable to detect them. The result is a warning in your vehicle that continuously tells you that the trailer lights are not functioning. In addition, the lights on your trailer may not illuminate properly because of your vehicle's inability to recognize LED lights. This can lead to either hyperflashing lights on the trailer or lights that will not illuminate at all.

This adapter has a built-in bypass system that is designed to eliminate these problems. Just plug the adapter into your vehicle's 7-way, RV-style trailer connector and you're good to go. Plug the wiring connector from your LED-lit trailer into the adapter's 7-way, blade-style receptacle and the trailer's lights will illuminate as they're supposed to, without triggering errors in your car's computer.

When I changed my vehicule for the Expedition 2021, I was getting the error message "trailer left turn lamp fault" when towing my RV. After searching online I found out that there wasn't really a problem with the car or the RV. The source of the problem was that I was using the Ford factory tow package with brake control and that their computer thought there was a faulty bulb when in fact it's just because of the low amperage used by the LED lights.
This problem can happen with different vendors not just FORD.
I was releived that there was an adapter to fix this but it was backorder EVERYWHERE.
etrailer kept me informed for several weeks/months until the part was finaly available. (thank you guys for that by the way)
With this adapter, my problem is no more and I can safely travel with my RV without having my left lights disabled by the car's computer (yeah it did that).
Every RV shop should have that and know about this possible issue.
Buy yours before they go BO again. :)

I bought this adapter for my 2024 GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate and 2024 DRV Mobil Suites fifth wheel (41RKDB). This adapter worked fine on the turn signals, brake signal, and side cameras. But it caused my trailer brakes to intermittently disconnect. Towing a 19,000lb trailer with no trailer brakes was dangerous and I was very uncomfortable. Perhaps this unit was defective so I will try a replacement.

Hey Jim, I would like to figure this out with you. I have a few questions that I would like to ask. Does your 2024 GMC have a lamp-out sensor? We see it more with vehicles like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Porsches. Which brake controller do you have? I recommend testing the 7 way for the brake function on the vehicle side and then also on the trailer side to make sure that there is not a short in the wiring. Also inspect the trailer wiring to the brakes to make sure there is not any broken or frayed wiring going on. I have a FAQ below that is helpful when testing the brake magnets on the trailer.

by:

Appears well made. Snug fit. Does exactly what it is supposed to do. I bought it to work with my Demco LED Light Bar for towed vehicles. My 2017 Mercedes Benz Sprinter based motorhome (Winnebago View) has a trailer lamp out sensor as do many European vehicles. This adapter tricks the Sprinter into thinking everything is OK. I plugged in the Demco LED Light Bar without this adapter and it went crazy, flashing randomly. As soon as I added in the adapter, it worked perfectly.

by:

I ordered the trailer connector knowing that it was not in stock. Etrailer.com let me know the expected shipping date , and offered an alternative product, but I decided to wait. When the item shipped, I was notified. Delivery was then prompt, and a follow up email was sent to make sure I was satisfied. The adapter works perfectly to enable the cameras on the mirrors to show beside my 2024 GMC 2500 when the turn signal is activated, even without a trailer in tow. Otherwise, I don’t have a view to the side when I turn. Great service and communication.

by:

This device solved my issue. I have a 2022 Audi Q7. Whenever the Q7s headlamps would turn on, I would get error messages saying “ left trailer bulb is out” and then “right trailer bulb is out.” The trailer lights would not come on under normal night driving, however, indicators and brake lights would work. This device solved the problem. No more error messages and all lights work as intended.

by:

It solved my issue with my Mercedes not liking my trailers LED lights..

Solid, Well-Made, Does Exactly What It Should.
HyperFlashing
is Not Cool!!!

I've been trying to track down a part which solves this problem for a while. I started using an LED-equipped trailer and the hyperflashing & computer warning messages are annoying! I almost settled for 20141, but glad I waited. Also, most retailers aren't receiving this part for another month or more. eTrailer shipped the same day as my order.

NOTE: This works well with Range Rover also.

Not related to the product: This was my first eTrailer order and I was VERY impressed. I spoke with two ladies regarding this part and eTrailer's customer service is TOP NOTCH. I will definitely order again in the future! THANKS!

what year range rover does this work with. I just tried it on my 2008 LR3 and I still have the problem?

It should work independent of year. Check your trailer connector and make sure the connections inside have not corroded for starters. Also check all the grounds of the trailer wiring and if applicable on the vehicle trailer connector. Ground issues cause most of the electrical gremlins in the trailer world. On 7-Way systems, corrosion inside the connector is another likely culprit.

I am an amateur Porsche Race Car Driver and have a trailer that I pull my race car on. I pull my race car with a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. I could never get the lights to work properly and hated to rewire as I use an american truck sometimes. Before installing the adapter, the lights would just blink and had no brake lights or signal lights.. The adapter I bought is a great solution for European cars and/or trucks. I purchased the Trailer Connector Adapter w/ Lamp-Out Sensor Bypass - 7-Way RV to 7-Way RV - Vehicle End and it works perfectly. The blinkers works. The brake lights work. I can't believe such an inexpensive solution solved my problem. Contact e-trailer before you think of rewiring any trailer.

by:

When my 4-pin trailer light plug was plugged into my Jeep Grand Cherokee (GC)'s 4-pin connector, the GC reported (on the dash and via a highly annoying beep every time I hit the brakes!) that the LED trailer lights were out, presumably because LED lights don't draw enough current (don't have enough resistance). When using this adaptor that plugs into the GC's 7-pin connector and adapts to my 4-pin plug, problem solved! (I had plugged into another trailer that had incandescent lights, and I didn't have a problem. So I can use this adaptor when I'm pulling a trailer with LED lights, and not use it when I'm pulling one with incandescent lights...perfect!)

by:

I was on my way to pick up new RV when I learned I need an adaptor for the trailer lights to work with my pull vehicle. I called Joshua at etrailer and he took care of me quickly and got me the adaptor fast. Outstanding customer service. etrailer earned a new client for like.

A absolute necessity for wireless towing behind a Mercedes Sprinter.

Caused intermittent false light open warning on my 2022 GMC HD. Not using it.....

by:

This adapter saved our sanity! Our 2019 F350 kept giving us the ‘trailer disconnected’ warning constantly while pulling our fifth wheel. We researched the problem online and realized that our truck wasn’t sensing the led lights due to their low voltage. Took the truck to the dealer who assured me they could fix it however the first time we took it out and I adjusted the trailer brakes I started getting the message again . So tried finding an adapter to bypass the bulb out sensor on the truck. I found this via a google search . Plugged this in, and no issues since!! It is awesome and such a good price! I would recommend this to anyone who is towing a trailer with led lights with a Ford truck.

Still couldn’t pull my trailer without it , I just wished it would fit tighter. I have to wrap short bungees around it to keep it tight.

My tow vehicle is a Mercedes 2006 ML500 that had issues connecting with the improved LED lighting on my Airstream trailer. I had a choice of a $800 wiring upgrade or this; I tried this and couldn't be happier. Highly recommend to solve the problem - works well, sits in glove box, has held up to frequent use. Only comment - you have to be more firm when you insert It into the receptor - not a big deal, but a thought if you're having problems connecting. Great product, customer service - this company provides practical and reasonable solutions. I'm a committed customer.

Great so far -- bought this to connect a Mercedes ML350 suv to a Flagstaff travel trailer. As is mentioned many times in different trailering forums, some European vehicles have an issue with false sensor readings when connected to a trailer with LEDs. I had the same exact issue and this adapter seems to have fixed the problem perfectly. Time will tell as we go on our first big road trip with the travel trailer next week. But for now, looks like a winner.

Adapt or works fine. Using it on a Mercedes ml350. However, we bought it ruse with a Curt Bluetooth brake controller which is a piece of junk so we don’t really use the adaptor any longer at this point.

by:

Bought this to use on a 2017 Ford F350 that was having trouble with trailer turn signal fault and trailer disconnected message would also come up on the dash. Finally figured out it was the LED lights on the trailer that were causing trouble with the trailer system on the truck. This adapter works great for that , even though it doesn't list it as working with a Ford. Very good product and very good service!

Thanks for the Review Mike. I did reach out to my friends at Tow-Ready and confirmed that this item is not exclusively for the European vehicles, and will work with any vehicle that has a trailer lamp out detection monitoring system. The European models were leading the way with those electrical systems. Also if you happen to need a 7 to 4-way adapter the # C35FR functions the same way. It just provides a 4-way for the trailer connector.

Intermittent connections! Thought the car was charging the camper battery while driving, arrived at camp with a dead battery. Other connection intermittent as well; sometimes car indicted trailer lamps were bad. Sometimes I could see the trailer lamps flicker while driving. Do you sell a more reliable solution?

I have contacted the manufacturer and they have confirmed that this product is not able to perform for charging the battery of your camper while driving. This part is a pass-through connector that will provide what the vehicle is capable of. All it does is provide a little extra load on the lighting circuits, it does not modify the connections. As for your lights flickering while driving, I suggest checking some of those connections to make sure that there are no loose connections. I would also suggest making sure that all of the connections are good and not corroded.

This connector adapter solved an irritating problem in our 2022 Thor DELANO Sprinter with notifications coming from the tow car about the lights. We also have a Nighthawk tow bar with lcd lights and the tow vehicle also uses some lcd lighting. These conditions created a situation where the turn signal was really sped up, and I had to dismiss several lighting notifications/warnings every time we started up the RV. No more! I will also add that the item shipped immediately after ordering, and it arrived several days earlier than expected.
