Replacing A Dometic Duo-Therm 59516.331 Condenser Unit With An Advent Air 15K BTU Replacement Unit

Question:

can I replace duo therm 59516.331 with a advent 150. Do I need to replace the inner and can I use my original tstat.

Hi Zach,

Yes, you can swap out your Dometic rooftop condenser unit with the Advent Air # ACM150. You'll just need to remove the cover to your air distribution box so that you can get to the mounting bolts and wiring. You'll want to find the harness that drops down from the condenser and plugs into the controller for the system. Dometic sometimes hides the controller in the condenser, if this is the case for you then you'll have to take it apart to find it. Once you find the harness you'll need to see if it's a 6-pin or 9-pin connector.

If you have a 6-pin connector then you're good to swap out the unit. If you have a 9-pin connector then you'll just need to pick up an adapter # ACCOLKIT as well. If you have a heat pump then you'll for sure have a 9-pin connector and won't need to investigate first.

@Zach As long as you're only replacing the rooftop condenser unit and plugging into the Dometic controller you won't have to change anything else. If you ever want to replace the air distribution box or thermostat then you'll have to replace the rest of the Dometic components with Advent Air parts. Advent offers a replacement with the thermostat controls built into it # ACDB or with a wall thermostat # ACRG15.

Hi, Kevin! I, too, have a Dometic Duo-Therm 59516.331. The unit kicks on (at least the fan does) when the thermostat is set low enough. I assume the control unit is fine but I need a new condenser unit. Would this be a correct assumption? If not, can you direct me how to test? If the assumption is correct, which would be a good equal replacement condenser for this? I do not want a larger unit then exists. Thank you in advance!

@Rick If the unit feels like it's not cooling or you have it set for a specific temperature and it's clearly not kicking on when it should then you could potentially need a new condenser unit. RV air conditioners can typically only cool the room by about 20 degrees below the outside temperature. You can set a room thermometer in the middle of your trailer and then turn on the AC to see how cool it gets the room in an hour. If it's not even coming close to a 20 degree difference then you may have a Freon leak or the unit is just worn out and can't keep up. The 59516.331 is a 15,000BTU unit and since you have a 6-pin connector you'd be able to easily swap out to the Advent Air # ACM150.

@MarkP That model number didn't come back to anything for me so I recommend removing the shroud on the rooftop unit to get a look at the manufacturer sticker that lists the BTU rating. If you have a 13,500BTU unit then you can go with the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM135. If you find you have a 15,000BTU unit you can go with the # ACM150 instead. You'll want to check the wire harness like I stated above to see if you have a 9-pin connector and would need an adapter # ACCOLKIT.

@KevinC Hello Kevin I was able to find the correct model # 59516.331 Brisk 1. cooling only. it is ducted and uses a 3106995.032 thermostat. what will be the replacement and what all will i need to complete the job.

@Markp The 59516.331 is a 15,000BTU rated unit so you'll want the # ACM150. Since you only have cooling functions you most likely have a 6-pin wire harness connector but it definitely wouldn't hurt to check to see if you have a 9-pin or hardwired connection. If you do have a 9-pin then you'd need to pick up the adapter # ACCOLKIT.
