Tongue Weight Capacity Of A 2022 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium AWD And Recommended Cargo Carrier
Question:
Hi, Im looking at purchasing a hitch carrier basket for hunting. I own a 22 rav4 xle premium awd. Online says the tongue capacity is 150lbs. Is that all Id be able to put into the carrier? I figure its not a dynamic load like a trailer would be so the capacity may be higher? I also installed eibach Leveling Springs which I hear may help with sag/tongue weight. I just dont want to purchase a hitch mount and carrier if it wont serve my purpose. Thanks

My first thought was "150 lbs seems like a pretty low tongue weight capacity". Based on what I can see online though, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium AWD does indeed have a towing capacity of 1,500 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 150 lbs. So while you certainly could use the 22-1/2x49 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18113, you would only be able to put 125 lbs of gear (or deer) onto the carrier. We have to factor in the weight of the carrier itself which is 25 lbs, leaving you with 125 lbs of capacity to work with.
That being said, if you must have a hitch mounted cargo carrier, the 22x60 Flint Hill Goods Cargo Carrier # C18113will definitely be your best bet, since it is so lightweight.
While the leveling springs you added should help with sagging, they will not increase the vehicles tongue weight capacity. So even with springs added, we cannot recommend exceeding the manufacturers specified capacities.

Hi there. Do you also have to factor the weight of the hitch and further reduce the weight that's left for you to carry? Thanks.
