Troubleshooting Single Tire Overheating on Tandem Axle Trailer I have a 2 axle trailor with 4 bran
Question:
Dear experts, I have a 2 axle trailer with 4 brand new 16 ply tires and rims on this trailor . The tires are rated for 105 lbs. of pressure. I have only one tire that is causing a problem . It heats up very quickly 15-20 minutes on the road when loaded. There is NO heat anywhere except the tire itself. I have used a straight edge placed against the in this case front tire and spun the BAD tire and it is running TRUE. There is no play when I try to wiggle the tire when it is off the ground. There is no uneven wear on the BAD tire but it continues to get hot even though I am only traveling at 40-45 mph and I have to stop every 15-20 minutes to allow it to cool down. What could be causing this ? I really appreciate some help

I'm assuming since you mentioned the psi for the tires that you have them inflated correctly. Trailer tires should be at the max psi unless the manufacturer says otherwise. Since you don't have any uneven wear, and nothing else is overheating aside from that tire, it sounds like there is an internal issue with the tire itself. It might be a loose belt or something similar.
Since these are new tires, I would contact the manufacturer and see about getting a replacement under warranty. If it is no longer covered by the warranty you will want to replace the tire. I would be happy to recommend a replacement if you let me know what tire size you currently have.
