How To Determine If Your Trailer Exceeds The Towing Capacity Of Your 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Question:

I have a 2021 Chevy. Silverado 6-6 L duramax diesel the 5th wheel towing capacity is approx 18,000 pounds. It has a super slide 5th wheel hitch and rear air bags installed. Do I have to be concerned what the tounge weight is or that only on conventional towing? And if it is important How would I find the tounge my tow vehicle can handle. The 5th wheel Im looking at has a tongue weight of 2880. Can I tow it?

When trying to find what your tongue weight is for your 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 all you have to do is check your vehicle's owner manual. There are many different configurations for your truck that have different 5th wheel towing capacities so you will need to make sure you're looking at the correct one. You would definitely need to know what your tongue weight is before towing any trailer. If you have to much weight exerted on the hitch ball, the force could overload the rear tires of the towed vehicle and push the rear end of the vehicle around.
