Question:
We would like to carry 2 Kayaks with Thule lift assist on our 2020 Subaru Outback. I’ve read about the after market cross braces that are necessary, but I’m not finding anything confirming that carrying 2 kayaks is possible. If it is possible, I need to find out what parts are necessary. Many thanks for helping.

I have a great kayak option with a lift assist for you. While you are absolutely correct that you need aftermarket overhang-style crossbars in order to use the Thule Hullavator # TH898 on your 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon, the only crossbar system offered by Thule does not give you the required overhang needed on either side of your vehicle for the Hullavator to function. This is because the Hullavator needs at least 4 inches of overhang past the feet of your setup to work. The Thule crossbar system that is compatible does not provide you enough overhang even to use a single Hullavator.
For a great alternative, I recommend using the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier and TelosXL Load Assist w/ Tie-Downs # MPG114MD-351XL with an additional Malone DownLoader # MPG114MD. The TelosXL assists you in mounting and unmounting your kayaks. With all of these components, you also have all of the required straps you need to mount 2 kayaks. In order to use this setup, you must have at least 41 inches of available crossbar space on your crossbars. Also, your factory crossbars cannot exceed 3" wide x 1" tall. Before pulling the trigger, I recommend measuring your crossbars to make sure they fit within these parameters. I confirmed with my available specs on your vehicle that you have the required minimum crossbar spread of 24 inches in order for the carriers to work.
