What Should I Use To Seal My Replacement Window And Trim On My RV

Question:

My Rv needs a window replaces, frame and glass. The siding is fiberglass. I see the is a black rubber gasket between the window frame and siding. Do you recommend caulking around the window trim once it is installed?

Love the question, lets see what I found out:

**TremPro 644 Silicone Sealant - 10.1-Fl-Oz Cartridge - Black # 0160299.
**Alpha Systems Butyl Tape for RV Weatherproofing - 30' x 3/4" x 1/8" - White # AL64UV.

If the frame you are going to use mounts with screws I recommend using the Butyl tape linked above. Just place it along the path where the mounting hardware will be making contact. This will create a watertight seal.

If your replacement doesn't use mounting hardware I suggest going with the TremPro 644 Silicone Sealant. I do emphasize using sealant and not caulk. Caulks, if used properly, are more rigid and do not flex well when fully hardened. You need something that will give a little bit like a sealant, you need something that can expand and contract with temperature changes and moisture or the lack there of.
