How To Replace Single Wire Porch Light with LED

Published 09/09/2021

Question:

I have a rear porch light on my 88foot Chevy El Dorado 21foot rv. It had a halogen bi-pin bulb with only hot wire. I am assuming the fixture was used as the neutral or ground? not sure. Anyway, any idea on either LED bulb or complete fixture replacement? I guess I am a little confused with the only one hot wire to fixture. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

In cases where there is only one wire run to a light, this is because the light grounds via the mounting surface and the sole wire is for power. If you are replacing this light with one that uses two wires you'd simply need to run the ground wire to a suitable ground source.

If you want to upgrade to LED then you can either replace the bulb or the entire fixture. I would need to know the bulb type for the former but for the latter you can choose an option from the list below that best matches your needs such as the LED Porch and Utility Light for RVs part # DG52724VP.
