Troubleshooting A Lippert Turning Point That Won't Pivot Freely  

Question:

after a year of ownership of fifth wheel trailer i am trying the turning point system along with my curt fifth wheel i ordered the correct wedge but once i remove the two underside locking bolts on the turning point system it is seized and will not pivot freely do i need to hit it with sledge hammer to free up then apply lubricant i know it requires some force to move but it seems very stuck

I spoke with a Lippert tech and he stated you would be able to move it by hand once the locking bolts are removed. If you can not then you'll need to remove the pin box from the frame and then remove the castle nut on the top to remove the top portion of the pin box to look at the spindle or friction disc to see if anything is catching on either of those parts. You will be able to spray in some silicone lubricant spray like Item # RM-747 to help keep your pin box in top shape. You will not want to use any petroleum based lubricants as they will collect dirt and debris that can damage your pin box. Do not use a sledge hammer to try to free the pin box, any damage caused by using a sledge hammer will void the warranty and leave you liable in the event of an accident caused by a pin box failure.
