How do I use a Bike Rack and Pull a Trailer at the same time

Question:

I want to know what bike racks you have that will carry two bikes and will attach to the trailer hitch, 2 and STILL be able to USE the hitch to tow a trailer. I cant tell from the pics.

We carry a very handy 2 inch ball mount for this exact application. The part is # D210. The ball mount slides and pins into your hitch and the top receiver will accept 2 inch bike racks and hold them above the ball. The Ball Mount has a 500 lb tongue weight capacity, which means that the bike rack and the bikes on it as well as the trailer tongue weight cannot weigh more than 500 lbs or the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, whichever is lower.

We also have a bike rack that clamps around a 2 inch ball mount instead of sliding into the receiver. That part is # C18013. If you use this rack, you will need an extra long ball mount like part # BM20. Please note that going this route will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your set up. That is why I think the first option is preferable.

Patrick. I have a similar but slightly different question than the gentleman above. I need the same exact style hitch to tow a trailer & mount a bike rack to the hitch at the same time but I ALSO need a 4" drop/rise hitch as my truck is too tall for my trailer. Please assist? 2" ball

@David To get that drop and be able to haul a bike rack as well you'll need to use a stacked receiver like the Gen-Y # 325-GH-414. This would give you a 5" drop so it would have the trailer a little nose down but would give you enough space to haul both the trailer and bike rack.

Is there an option that would work with a 1 1/4 class II receiver?

@Clare Hey Clare, I am sorry but there is not a dual receiver for the 1 1/4" receiver. It is due to the fact that the hitches with a 1 1/4" receiver are not rated for that kind of weight to be able to pull something and carry something. Were you trying to hook up a trailer and a bike rack? What kind of trailer and bike rack?
