Recommended Tie-Down Straps For 10,000lb Boat
Updated 04/06/2021 | Published 04/05/2021 >
Question:
Coming from the world of CDL and DOT tie downs always had to exceed 1/2 the weight of the load. So if I was moving a 20 ton excavator my tie downs had to exceed 10 tons, the weight of the 20 ton trailer that weighed 2 tons never entered into the equation. What strength tie downs do I need to secure a 10000 boat to my trailer.

The break strength of the strap needs to exceed the weight of your trailer. While this sounds strange, you want to choose a strap based on the lightest item that is being strapped, in this case, the trailer and not your 10,000lb boat. If your trailer weighs less than 2,500lbs, which I imagine it does, then I recommend going with BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps - 43" Long # IMF08893 which has a break strength of 2,500lbs. I attached a demonstration video for you.
