Products Featured in This Question
Question:
Im making a ramp for my trailer that will need approximatly 60 pounds of force to lift once it is installed at approximatley 135 degrees. I would like to install two torsion springs on the ramp hinge pins but Im having trouble sizing the springs. Any assistance you could offer would be appreciated.

When selecting ramp springs for a trailer ramp, you will want to know the diameter of your hinge pin and how much space you have available in the hinge. A typical horse trailer or utility trailer ramp uses 3/4 inch hinge pins and would require two ramp springs with a 3/4 inch inner diameter.
The ramp springs that we carry fit 1-1/2 inch diameter hinge pins and are designed for use with heavy-duty steel ramps like those on equipment trailers or car haulers. The spring slips over the hinge pin and requires at least 2-1/2 inches of space between the ramp and trailer. At this time, the ramps springs, # RS16933LH (left hand) and # RS16933RH (right hand) are the only size that our manufacturer offers.
If you have an enclosed trailer, you may be interested in our overhead torsion spring systems. We carry double and single torsion springs. The double torsion springs have a cable for each side of the door and a single torsion spring has one cable. The double torsion springs are available in 96 inches wide, # CB250D96SHD, and 81 inches wide, # ERS120D81.
Keep in mind that installation of this product is recommended for individuals who have experience winding torsion springs. If you have not worked with a torsion spring system before, we strongly recommend contacting a local garage door company to install this system. The torque involved in winding the spring can be extremely dangerous.
