That's a good question and no you don't have to wait until the gas tank is empty to refill your A-iPower 2,000-Watt Portable Inverter Generator part # 289-SUA2000i or any other generator for that matter. You should shut the generator off before refilling and give it a little time to cool of before doing so.
The one time I do recommend running a generator out of fuel is before storing it for a long time. What I do with my generators is to turn the gas off to the engine in this case by turning the multi switch to off and letting it run until it dies. You will have remaining fuel in the tank at this point (unless you happened to run it dry) so you treat it with a fuel stabilizer of your choice and it is ready to store until you need it again.
