You could use just about any type of hand winch you would like to build a log arch. You will need to determine the capacity that you will need to lift the logs you will be cutting. Having been around a farm most of my life, I would think that a 2,000 lb capacity winch would be sufficient, since you will not need to lift the whole weight of the log with it and if you are cutting fire wood you could reduce the length of the log. I posted a link to all of the 2,000 lb winches that we stock for you.
The worm gear winch you selected would be a good choice if you need a top wind winch for your application, and if you need a side wind winch a standard winch like the Dutton-Lainson two speed winch, # DL14725, would be a good choice. With the two speed winch you would be able to lift and lower light loads faster and go to the slower more powerful gears for heavy loads by moving the quick-attach handle to the second shaft on the winch.
If you determine that you need a heavier capacity winch, I would recommend going with a brake winch like part # DL24844. This winch is rated for 3,500 lbs for heavier/longer logs.
With and hand winch you will want to be sure that you are not using the winch in a situation where people could be caught under the load in any way and that you use a chain to support the log and drag it once it is lifted into position. You should not utilize the winch for pulling the log with a vehicle. We have an informational article on hand winches that you may find helpful also, see link.
