Comparing the BAKFlip F1 to the BAKFlip MX4 on 2018 GMC Sierra 3500
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
Bakflip F1 vs MX4 Guys, Im torn between the two for my 2018 GMC 3500 8foot box. Are the panels the same on both with an added fiber layer on the F1? Which one is more heavy duty structurally? Which has the most solid panels? Im more concerned about the overall lasting strength of the panel than the scuff and heat resistance. Can always paint. Do you have weight comparisons? I believe they use the same latching system now and both allow the tailgate to be closed with the cover in place, yes? Do either seal better than the other?? Thanks much!

Expert Reply:
The BAKFlip MX4 Hard Tonneau Cover - Folding - Aluminum - Matte Finish # BAK48122 and the BAKFlip F1 Hard Tonneau Cover - Folding - Aluminum and Fiberglass # BAK72122 are both excellent choices. The difference is the MX4 has 1/2 inch thick rustproof aluminum panels rated to hold up to 400 lbs evenly distributed. The F1 has 5/8 inch thick fiberglass-reinforced polymer panels with aluminum undersides and insulated cores for strength. The fiberglass will not heat up like the aluminum top and the hair cell texture is more durable. It is also rated to hold up to 400 lbs evenly distributed.
They both utilize the same seals and both allow the tailgate to be opened or closed with the cover in place. The top layer is the big difference with the F1 # BAK72122 being slightly more durable.

Hey there, wich one would be heavier; the mx4 or the F1. Heavier in weight, not the weight they can carry and also, wich one would be easier to flip ? Thanks.
