Question:
Im trying to rewire my trailer. The lights have red, black and white wires. The harness I have has yellow and brown to one side and green and brown to the other side with the short white to the trailer itself. What do I do with the three wires on the lights?

It sounds like you are using a wishbone harness to re-wire your trailer. A wishbone connector has a brown/green wire for the running lights on the right side and a yellow/brown wire for the left side running lights. You will also have a yellow wire that is for the turn signal and brake lights on the left side, and a green wire that is for the right side turn signal and brake lights. The white wire, as you mentioned, is for ground.
On your trailer lights, most likely the red wire is for the brake/turn circuit, the black wire is for the running lights, and the white wire should be grounded to the trailer frame itself. You will simply splice these wires to the two wires at the rear of your trailer, on each side, to install your new lights.
