Before deciding on a trailer to tow with your 2014 Ford Fusion, knowing the towing limitations of your vehicle will be an important factor.

In the owner's manual for the 2014 Fusion, it lists the maximum trailer weight of all the powertrain options for this vehicle. The manual states that your vehicle may tow a Class I trailer with the max trailer weight of 1,000 lbs for 1.5L, 1.6L, and 2.5L powertrains and 2,000 lbs for the 2.0L powertrain models. Therefore, depending on your engine size you will be looking at being able to tow between a max of 1,000-2,000 lbs.

The tongue weight rating of for this vehicle will be 10 to 15 percent of the total loaded weight of the trailer. So, if you have a trailer weight limit of 1,000 pounds, then the tongue weight allowance will be between 100 to 150 lbs.

Therefore, you will need to look for a Class I trailer that has a weight limit up to 1,000 lbs or 2,000 lbs depending on the powertrain of your Fusion.

The Curt Class I Hitch, # C12091, that you referenced is confirmed to fit the 2014 Ford Fusion. However, even though the hitch has a trailer weight rating of 3,500 lbs and a tongue weight rating of 350 lbs, you CANNOT tow a trailer with these weight ratings with the 2014 Ford Fusion. You always have to use the lowest rated component of your towing setup. In this case, the trailer and tongue weight limit on the Fusion is the deciding factor.

I have included an installation video of the Curt hitch being installed on a 2014 Ford Fusion for you to review. I also attached a few of help articles on choosing the correct hitch, installation tips, and trailer towing for you.
