Can 2014 Toyota Tundra Tow 8,000 lb Trailer

Updated 05/22/2017 | Published 05/21/2017

Question:

Hello, I have a 2014 Tundra 5.7 standard bed 2wd with the TRD package and tow package, My wife and I would like to go from our travel trailer 6800lbs dry to a 5th wheel. We have seen a few we like but they are in the upper 8000lbs range. I have the stock Michellin 8 ply tires on it. Is our truck designed and capable saftley to pull a 5th wheel with the trailer and truck packed for camping. Thanks

There is a pretty wide range for the towing capacity for your 2014 Toyota Tundra with the 5.7 liter V8. Looks to be between 9,000 lbs and 10,400 lbs depending on cab size and 4WD status.

That being said you should be fine towing a trailer in the 8,000 lb range.

Since you have a standard bed which is 6-1/2 feet long you would need a slider hitch like the Demco Hijacker part # DM8550034 and then a custom install rail kit part # DM8552020-71 which is a confirmed fit for your truck.
