Comparing Weight Distribution Systems that Use Chains Versus No Chains
Question:
I am looking at buying an RV with between a 600 and 800 pound tongue weight and am curious about the pros and cons of weight distribution hitches with chain and no chains. Could you offer me any advice? Regards

Helpful Expert Reply:
For a weight distribution system, there are always exceptions, but in general the systems with only bars and chains do not have sway control. They are adjustable in tension for different weight, but are a little more work. The bar systems whether trunnion or round bar, usually have an element of sway control and are easier to use.
My favorite system is a hybrid and is the Reese Straight-Line like # RP66083. Systems are available in different weight ratings and you want to make sure your system is not too big to create a rigid ride, or too small with not enough assistance.
I've attached an article to assist further.
