This time delayed brake controller is so-named that because there is a delay between the time that you initially apply the brakes on your tow vehicle and the time that the controller reaches the set maximum power output. more

With it being a time delay brake controller, the nice benefit of the time delay versions is that they can be mounted in any orientation. You can put this thing just about anywhere in your vehicle. I've got it in kind of a traditional location underneath the dash leveled like you would a proportional brake controller. But that's again really the big benefit with all your proportional brake controllers. They need to be level side to side and they have usually particular angles that they can be front to back, whether it be up or down here. more

Today on our 2016 Acura MDX, we are going to be taking a look at installing the Draw-Tite Activator Trailer Brake Controller, part number 5504. In conjunction with that, we are going to be installing the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller 7-way RV and 4-way flat, part number ETBC7. In conjunction with that, we are going to be installing the pigtail for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite Brake Controllers, part number 7894, to attach all these together. Now, this braking system is a time delayed system. You can adjust the amount of energy that is going to apply to your trailer brakes and how fast it comes on, all adjustable by your switches on top. It's going to adjust your gain and that's going to adjust the intensity of how fast it will come on as far as how do you like your settings to be. As you apply your brakes, you'll see it climb up and that is going to let you know that it is applying your brakes on your trailer, and you can adjust it up or down to suit your needs. more

DIY 2016 Chevrolet Express Van Installation for the Draw-Tite Activator IV Trailer Brake Controller

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Express van, we're going to be taking a look at installing the Draw-Tite Activator IV trailer brake controller, part number 5504. Now we're also going to be using part number ETBC7 and part number 20127 to help us with our installation. Here's what our brake controller looks like fully installed. Now this is a time delayed brake controller, so we have the option of mounting this in any spot or in any direction that we want underneath our dash or above our dash if we'd like. Now it's going to feature an LED display, and it's going to have a red light with a black background. Now over here on the left where it says gain, this is going to be the control that established the maximum power available to our trailer brakes. Now it starts out as low as 0.0, and it's going to go up by 0.5 all the way up to 10. Now over here where it says sync, this is going to control how aggressive our brakes are powered. more

The part number on it is 5504. We're also going to be using the replacement brake control plugin harness, part number 20127. Here you can see once it's installed. As we activate the switch we're going to see our gain lowering and rising indicating that we've got it hooked up properly. Now a couple of nice features about it are that currently we've got our gain set to 10. more

It will really let you dial in to almost make it like a proportional brake controller, but give you the benefits that a time-delay controller offers.Now, this brake controller is a nice, time delayed unit that has more features than some of the cheaper models, but yet this is still a very affordable unit to get for your vehicle. What a time delayed brake controller does over proportional brake controller is, any time your foot's on the brake pedal, the brakes are applied on your trailer even if you're not moving. This is great for if you're using your brake controller on an off-road style trailer.Now, this brake controller has three functions on it that you need to concern yourself with. Today on our 2016 GMC Sierra 1500, we'll be installing Draw-Tite's Activator Forward Trailer Brake Controller. With this, we'll be using the plug-in wiring adapter.This trailer brake controller is a time-delay brake controller, it's gonna provide braking at your trailer based on the settings that you preset here on our controller. You've got two different settings that you can adjust: you have your gain and your sync.Your gain is your maximum output to your brakes, and we can see that here changing on our display if we have our brakes applied. And the sync adjusts that time-delay. If it feels like they're applying a little bit too late or a little too soon, you can adjust that with the sync here.The manual slider can also be used to hold your trailer brakes if you're sitting on a steep hill for a while. You could use it for testing purposes, as well as help bring your trailer back straight if it starts to sway when going down the road.We'll begin our installation by plugging in our wire adapter. more

Today, in our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we'll be installing the draw tite actuator 4 brake controller for one to four axles, part number 5504. We'll be doing this in conjunction with the Tekonsha plug-n-play wiring harness, part number 3045-P. Here's our direct fit wiring harness. The grey end will match up with the manufacturer's grey plug when plugged directly into it. Then once plugged in, we'll go ahead and route the remaining portion of our harness over to where we'll be mounting the brake controller. Keep in mind to stay away from any moving parts, such as the gas, brake, or parking brake pedal, or even possibly the steering column when routing your wire. more
