According to my research the maximum trailer towing capacity for a 2003 Ford Taurus is 1,750 lbs. I recommend checking the owner's manual to make sure you do not exceed the towing capacity for your Taurus. You will also want to check the total weight of your trailer. It should be weighed fully loaded.
The trailer hitches we offer for your Taurus are either Class l or Class ll hitches with a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12232. This is a Class ll hitch with a bolt-on installation.
If you require trailer wiring use # 119178KIT if your Taurus is a wagon. This harness adapts the 3-wire system on the Taurus to a 2-wire system on the trailer.
If you have the sedan I recommend the Curt Wiring Harness # C55375 This kit requires no cutting or splicing into the vehicle wiring. It simply installs by using the connection points located in the trunk.
For towing I recommend the Draw-Tite ball mount, # 36061. This ball mount provides a 3-1/8 inch rise from the top of the receiver tube. For a 1-7/8 inch diameter hitch ball I recommend # 19257. For a 2 inch ball the part number to order is # 19258.
Check out the installation video of this hitch on a 2002 Ford Taurus at right.
