Troubleshooting an OL Code on a Draw Tite # 5504 Brake Controller

Question:

I have a 2 axle trailer. The controller doesnt show OL till I have a load on it. I have a Chevy 2002 1500 silverado. Thanks

What you are experiencing is an overload or short somewhere in the brake circuit connected to the Draw-Tite Activator IV Brake Controller, part # 5504. Closely examine the brake output wire (usually blue). Make sure all connections are tight, and that the wire is not pinched or the insulation is not worn or nicked, allowing the conductor to short out on the trailer frame.

Check the trailer and vehicle side connectors for dirt or corrosion build up in the plugs and in the back of each plug where the wires are. Corrosion and/or dirt can cause a short.
