Removing Swagman Locking Knob Part # P1040 Without My Original Key
Published 11/11/2014 >
Question:
I saw your video about replacement keys and knob. The problem I have is the knob locked on its own when it was tightened and we cannot find our keys. Does that mean the lock is damaged? Is there a way to get the knob off without the key?

I called our representative at Swagman and the best way to remove your locking knob # P1040, without your key, is to use a pair of needle nose plyers. On the backside of the locking knob attach the plyers around the threaded portion and twist it until it releases.
Swagman does not offer replacement keys for their bike racks as stand-alone items, so your best option would be replace your locking knob, once your current one is removed.
I have included a picture to the right to show you the backside of the locking knob.
