No 12 Volt Power at Trailer Connector On Rear of a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Question:

I have a 2002 chevy p/u with factory trl package. I installed under dash adapter harness for break controller and all lights and electric breaks work fine. I have not been able to find fuse location or end of 12 volt wire to energise for 12 volt dc on 7-way plug at rear of truck.

You will need to take the cover off of the fuse panel under the hood and check to see if there is a wire connected to the farthest forward positive post and if there is a 40-amp fuse installed in the nearest fuse location (see photo link). This fuse is one of the larger styles of two blade fuses. If the wire is connected and the fuse is missing or blown then installing a new fuse in this location will solve your problem. If the wire is not connected to the post, then you will need to find the existing wire that has a ring terminal on it. This wire will be located between the cab and fuse panel underneath the curved bracket and lower cover or will be taped to the wiring harness below the master cylinder.

If all of these connections are made you will need to use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993, and check the wiring under the vehicle. The most likely place for trouble is where the connector under the rear of the vehicle attaches to the trailer connector.
