Can 12" Wheels Be Used With The e72GR 3500 Pound Axle?

The Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs - 4" Drop - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 89" Long - 3,500 lbs # e72GR comes with the etrailer Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKIHUB-545-35-K which will fit 13" to 15" wheels. Unfortunately, 12" wheels will not have enough room to fit over the face/plate of these hubs (the outer diameter of the face/plate is going to be too large). I included images of both hubs showing that the # AKIHUB-545-35-K is wider than the # AKIHUB-545-2-2K.

I did a lot of searching, but the only way you are going to be able to use this axle would be to replace the wheels. The hubs that work with 12" wheels, like the # AKIHUB-545-2-2K I mentioned, are all going to use different bearings that are typically found on smaller capacity axles. If you are open to going with larger wheels, let me know and I can get a couple good options for you.
