Best Tire Chains For A 2010 Nissan Murano With 235/65R18 Tires

Updated 10/19/2026 | Published 10/15/2026

Question:

Hi there! We drive a 2010 Nissan Murano S 3.5L V-6 FWD. The tire size is P235/65R18. I believe the manual specifies we need SAE Class S chains on the front wheels only. We are moving from CA to CO late December/early January and will be passing over the Raton Pass into Colorado. We are planning to have winter tires installed before the move, but need to keep a set of tire chains in the vehicle as well. Ive read where depending on the tire, there may be low clearance, which will require a specific set of chains. Im unsure if these will work, though perhaps we need to determine which tires we are putting on there first? Thank you so much for your assistance!

Hi Megz!

The Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - Twist Links - Manual Tensioning - 1 Pair # TC2229 you were looking at technically will fit your tires, but they are not Class S chains and I do not recommend going that route. I checked your owner's manual and it does say you should use Class S chains due to low clearance in the wheel well. With that said, I recommend one of the following two options:

Titan Chain Cable Tire Chain - Diagonal Pattern - Roller Links - Manual Tensioning - 1 Pair # TC735DC
Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - Assisted Tensioning - 1 Pair # TC2323

Both of these are Class S and will be the better options. The # TC735DC cables will keep you from getting a ticket and will offer decent traction, but cables never last very long and are really only going to be a one time use kind of thing (you might get more uses, but not many). The # TC2323 will offer very good traction as there will always be chain on the ground and these will last at least a whole winter season, if not more. They are by far the best choice and what I would go with if I needed chains.

Where are you moving from and to? I left San Diego over 10 years ago to come out here to Missouri and it was shocking how much less expensive some stuff is! I do miss the Mexican food (and a few other things) though. It just isn't the same out here.

Hi Lazer! Wonderful, thank you so much for your quick reply, this is very helpful! This will be our first time using tire chains, so the more knowledge we have, the better :) Will definitely practice putting them on beforehand as well. Since we’ll be in an area that receives an above average amount of annual snowfall, we do want something that will ideally last all winter. We’ll choose the second option you recommended, thank you! We’re also in the San Diego area, but ready for a change! More affordable housing & a better suited place to raise our family!

@Megz You're very welcome! And doing a couple test fits before you potentially need them is a very very good idea. Putting chains on the first time on the side of the road with freezing hands is not fun and you will likely discover a few new swear words in the process, so don't do that. ^___^ My little brother is still in San Diego near OB and has been looking for a house for his growing family. A million for a serious fixer upper is not really what anyone would call great. So good call getting out of there! Good luck with the move and just let me know if there is anything else I can help with!

@LazerS Thank you! Yes after living in warm weather for 4 years, time to switch gears & also readjust the wardrobe too! We're currently north San Diego County & it's pretty, but that alone doesn't count for much right now. Looking forward to our move! One thought I had - is there a tip or trick to properly storing the chains? We want to practice when we receive them, but concerned they will get all jumbled afterwards, causing an even bigger mess if/when we need to use them!

@Megz These do come with a storage bag, but they will still get tangled up. It's kind of an inevitability with them. If you don't mind spending a couple more bucks, I would go to Harbor Freight (or something similar) and get two of they super cheap plastic ammo cans. One side should fit in each can pretty easily and that would at least keep them from getting tangled together.
