Adding a Low Profile Second Air Conditioner to a Fifth Wheel

Updated 10/17/2026 | Published 10/13/2026

Question:

Our fifth wheel has 50-amp service and is prewired for a second AC over the bedroom. It gets pretty warm up there, so we're ready to add one. There aren't any ceiling ducts or thermostat wires at that opening. I'd like a quiet, low-profile unit with a heat pump. What would you recommend, and what ceiling assembly would I need?

Hey Jenna! I'd recommend the 15K Furrion Chill Cube Low-Profile AC with Heat Pump. You can install it as a separate, non-ducted bedroom system without connecting it to your main AC's thermostat. The variable-speed compressor makes it a nice choice for sleeping since you won't have those abrupt full speed compressor starts throughout the night. Choose from the following based on color:

-Furrion Chill Cube Low-Profile RV AC with Heat Pump - 15K Btu - White # FR99TQ

-Furrion Chill Cube Low-Profile RV AC with Heat Pump - 15K Btu - Black # FR39TQ

Add the Air Distribution Box # FR38BC, which includes ceiling controls and a remote. The remote is especially nice when adding an AC unit since you won't need to run wires for a wall thermostat and can control it from the comfort of your bed.

What kind of 5th wheel do you have and where are you typically camping?

It's a Grand Design Reflection. We mostly camp in Florida and South Carolina, and the bedroom gets pretty warm even with the main AC running.

@Jenna the Chill Cube will be a great addition for those hot southern summers! Having a separate AC in the bedroom will take some of the load off your main system, and you'll be able to adjust the temperature right from bed with the included remote.
