Hey Dave,

Once the gas strut # RD39MR is fully extended, you just pull the lid back down by hand. The gas strut will compress as the lid closes.

It will take some pressure since the strut is rated for 75 lbs of force, but if it feels excessively hard to close, the strut may be too strong for the lid.

If you are trying to install it with it extended, then usually if you are using the correct size strut, you should have room to clip the top and bottom in and then close it. What is the situation you're working with? Did you go with too big of a strut?
