Thanks for reaching out Bernard. The grease used in most trailer hubs is typically a lithium complex grease, although the exact type can vary depending on the hub manufacturer and intended application. For example, hubs used in marine applications will commonly use a marine specific grease like LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease # L54FR.

I see you recently purchased the etrailer Idler Hubs # e84YR. These hubs come pre-greased with a lithium-complex grease similar to Dexter Multi-Purpose Lithium Grease # DX64TR. For ongoing maintenance, another great option is the LubriMatic LMX Industrial Strength Grease # L11390. This is also a lithium-complex grease but is formulated for higher-temperature applications, making it an excellent choice for repacking wheel bearings or adding grease during routine maintenance.

Even though different greases may have different colors, color alone doesn't determine compatibility. Similar lithium complex greases can be mixed, so you don't need to completely remove all of the existing grease from the hub and spindle before adding a compatible lithium-complex grease. I've included a grease compatibility chart below that shows which grease thickener types can safely be mixed.

Are you going to be adding grease to the axle you recently purchased or is this for a different idler hub?

The grease is fine, no issues,,, that said I am a Low time-RV-rrrrr! Occasional trips under 6 hours to camp! I add 5 Grease Gun "Pumps" per wheel per trip! An aside,,, there is a company that sells a grease fitting that clamps onto the Zerk Fitting so ya don't have to hold it in place!!! Those too work great :-) Scotty
