Question:
Hello, Im looking for a rooftop fishing rod carrier for my 2020 Land Cruiser with a Prinsu roof rack. I travel to the beach and other locations often and when I do often have MANY rods of various types. For example I have a number of 10-13foot surf rods but also bring smaller rods in the 6foot - 8foot range for inshore fishing/wading/and casting lures. Currently I put as many of the rods I can fit in a Plano Jumbo Airliner and just strap it to my roof reels are in a box in the truck. This worksinch but I dont like how jammed the rods are in there and also would like to carry some setups already rigged. I had been looking at the Trxsle ARC but watching your video it looks like depending on the rods its kind of cumbersome once you start trying to fit more than one rod down each tube. And potentially the 6 rod capacity might be a maxinch and if Im using rods with large guides it might be less. So then I started looking at the Inno Rod Box and the Yakima Topwater. A few questions about both: - I like that Inno goes a little longer at 9. But I also see that its a little more flimsy. Im curious, for the Topwater can I actually fit an 8foot rod or is that more like the length of the entire box. Im not quite clear if the struts take up space in there. I have two rods right at 8foot that Id like to be able to fit. - I had been thinking of putting my shorter rods in whatever I purchase and then continuing to use my Plano Airliner to store my longer surf rods. But looking at the video it seems like there is a lot of space on the bottom of the Yakima. Is there anything down there that would prevent me from putting my broken down surf rods at the bottom? Maybe I could add some cushioning. So Id keep the shorter rods/reels up on the rod supports and then put the 13inch rods underneath broken down in 5-6foot sections. - Will both the Inno and Yakima fit the T Channels on my Prinsu rack? Or if not can they be mounted to the Prinsu crossbars? I know a lot a questions in there but appreciate the help! Thanks, Ed

Hey Ed! For what you're carrying I would go with the Yakima TopWater # Y04088. It will hold up to 8 fully rigged rods, and the 8' rating is the actual maximum rod length so your two 8' rods will fit. You can also use the space below the rod supports for your broken-down surf rods. There is roughly 4" - 5" of space underneath, so I would just add some padding to keep the rod sections protected.
The TopWater has universal mounting hardware that fits most crossbars, so you can mount it directly around the crossbars on your Prinsu rack. I would use that rather than trying to mount it in the T-slots. You may also be able to mount it directly to the T-slots using the SmarT-Slot Kit # Y04094. I can't confirm that fit without knowing the dimensions of the Prinsu channels, but if you can get those measurements I can check them against the mounting hardware.
I think this will give you a lot more flexibility than the Trxstle since you're carrying so many different styles and lengths of rods.
