Firestone Ride Rite Air Bags for a 2021 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 Without Onboard Scales

Question:

Hi, I have a 2021 F150 XLT 4X4 truck. Im looking for air Firestone air lift airbags and cannot figure out whether I need the 2627 kit or the 2582 Kit. I do not have onboard scales and Im not sure about the auto headlights. I do have the V8 5.0 liter engine. I read that there is some sensor in the way that one kit overcomes over the other. I will be towing a 7000 pound 26foot travel trailer with a Blue OX sway pro equalizer hitch. Thanks in advance for any advice. Ron

Hi Ron,

For your 2021 Ford F 150 XLT 4x4 with the 5.0L V8 and without the onboard scales, you’ll want the Firestone Ride Rite Air Helper Springs, part # F87XV, rather than either of the kits you mentioned. This kit works with your F 150 whether or not you have the automatic leveling headlights, so you don’t need to figure out that feature before ordering.

The sensor you’ve been reading about is related to F 150s equipped with the factory onboard scales. Since your truck doesn’t have the onboard scales, that isn’t something you’ll need to work around with the # F87XV. I know all the different sensor and suspension options Ford offered on these trucks can make picking an air bag kit way more confusing than it seems like it should be, so thankfully your setup makes this one pretty straightforward.

With your 7,000 lb travel trailer and Blue Ox SwayPro, the air bags can be a nice addition for helping support the rear suspension and keeping the truck more level when you’re loaded up. You’ll still want the SwayPro properly adjusted for weight distribution, with the air bags providing additional suspension support rather than replacing what the weight distribution hitch is doing.
