What Refrigerant Is Used In Everchill RV Refrigerator With Freezer Drawers

Updated 08/17/2026 | Published 08/10/2026

Question:

what type of Freon gas is used in this refrigerator. I have the exact fridge but it is 12 volt power only, in my Eddy Bauer fifth wheel trailer, it only lasted 1.5 years. freon literally ate thru the copper tubing. it had 600a freon in it. it is now blown all over the fridge compartment.

Hey Mike! Sorry to hear about your old fridge. The Everchill RV Refrigerator w Freezer Drawers # EV87FR uses the same R600a refrigerant. R600a is common in modern refrigerators because it is one of the most cost-effective options that meets current EPA requirements

I wouldn't expect the R600a itself to eat through the copper tubing. A leak like the one you experienced could have been caused by corrosion, vibration, or a failure in the tubing. Unfortunately, you're going to have a hard time finding a comparable refrigerator without R600a.

Was that a 12V Everchill?

yes it was. with R600 freon. I'm looking at going to a residential style refrigerator, but I'm finding that most the refrigerators are using the R600 freon. Now I'm looking for one with more than a 1 year warranty.
