Hello Paul,
Welcome to etrailer, I'm glad you found us!
I really wish I could solve this mystery for you, but I honestly don't have a good answer as to why Lippert charges more for the shorter 63" Replacement Short Arm Assembly # LC404523 than they do for the longer 69" Replacement Support Arm Assembly # LC281154. The pricing comes from Lippert, and unfortunately they don't give us a breakdown of why one replacement arm is priced higher than another.
I do know, however, that we sell a lot more of the 69" # LC281154 assemblies than we do the 63" # LC404523. That could play a part in the price difference, but I can't say for sure that is the reason.
The important thing here is making sure you get the correct length for your awning rather than going with the 69" arm simply because it's less expensive. I've attached an image showing exactly where to measure your existing arm assembly. Once you have that measurement, you'll be able to determine whether you need the 63" # LC404523 or the 69" # LC281154.
I hope the picture makes it a little easier to get the right measurement. Are you replacing a damaged arm before an upcoming camping trip, or are you just trying to get the awning back up and running?

Paul, When I bought mine there was only one size...I am no help in that department. I CAN say that for sure it does take 3 people and a 12' step ladder. Once it is all together, the lighting connection could have been routed away from being pinched, but that was the MH manufacturer's fault. Good luck! jeb

correct it must match existing arm dimensions regardless of which one is more expensive. I believe the shorter one being an oddball custom size drives the higher price as mechanically they operate same
