Question:
I have a 2004 Sea Pro boat with a Yamaha 150HP outboard. What winch would you suggest I order? I think the overall weight of the boat, motor, gear, etc. is a little under 5000 pounds, according to chatgpt! Thanks, Justin I have a sea pro 220cc boat and Yamaha 150 2 stroke motor. What does this overall setup weigh to help me choose things for the right boat trailer setup? Based on your previous questions, Im assuming you have the 2004 Sea Pro 220CC center console with a Yamaha 150 HP V6 two-stroke. Heres a realistic breakdown of what your rig weighs: Component Approximate Weight Sea Pro 220CC hull dry 2,600–2,800 lb Yamaha 150 V6 2-stroke ~426 lb 105 gallons of fuel full ~630 lb Two batteries 100–130 lb Oil tank 2-stroke, full 35–50 lb T-top if equipped 100–150 lb Electronics, anchors, safety gear, cooler, tackle 200–400 lb Typical operating weight Lightly loaded half fuel: about 3,900–4,100 lb Ready to fish full fuel and gear: about 4,300–4,600 lb Heavily loaded: up to 4,800 lb

Hello Justin,
Welcome to etrailer, I'm glad you found us!!
Based on the information you provided, I'd say your estimate is right on the money. A 2004 Sea Pro 220CC with a Yamaha 150 HP two-stroke, fuel, batteries, and your normal fishing gear will typically weigh between 4,300 and 4,600 pounds, with a heavily loaded setup getting close to 4,800 pounds.
For your setup, I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Covered Hand Winch # DL17085. It's a two-speed winch, which is one of the biggest reasons I like it for a boat your size. That lower gear makes it much easier to pull the boat the last few feet onto the trailer, especially if you're loading by yourself or at a shallower boat ramp.
One thing that's worth mentioning is that the winch doesn't need to have the same weight rating as the boat. Unlike a hoist, the winch isn't lifting the boat off the ground. The trailer is supporting the weight, and the winch is simply pulling the boat forward onto the bunks. That's why you'll see a properly sized boat trailer winch with a capacity that's well below the boat's actual weight. The # DL17085 is a great match for a Sea Pro 220CC in that weight range.
Where are you located, and what body of water are you mainly out on? I have a little Ranger bass boat, I am out at Lake of the Ozarks and Mark Twain Lake here in Missouri most weekends, even in the winter =)
