Updated 08/04/2026 | Published 07/29/2026

Question:

I have a newer 5500 Chevy in need of a mounting plate and fifth wheel assembly that also incorporates a gooseneck ball. Thus assy will be welded to frame rails. Also on this 2023 chevy 5500 would like to put a tow bar on back for class 5

Hey Craig! For a 5th wheel and gooseneck setup I recommend the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Flatbed Trucks # BWGNRK1500. This will give you a gooseneck hitch and then it can be paired with the B&W Companion Flatbed Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # BWRVK3050 for 5th wheel towing.

For a hitch I recommend the Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-on Hitch w/ Brackets # C99CR. This fits frames up to 44" wide and comes with 18" brackets you can cut down to best fit your application. This has a 2" receiver with a max gross trailer weight of 16,000 lbs and max tongue weight of 1,600 lbs. If you want a higher rating a 2-1/2" version is also available. # C87CR.

What all will you be towing?

I'm interested I a "conversion kit" to pair w/ "companion" from B&W prob is they make exclusively for B&W and then the other prob is I want a 30k fifth and B&W doesn't offer one so reckon my welder will be busy!!

@CraigG sorry meant to say that B& W makes that "conversion " exclusively for Hillsboro

@CraigG yeah the Turnoverball can handle 30k but not the Companion. You'll probably have to install a separate set of rails and use a hitch like the Curt PowerRide # C22ER to get that rating for a 5th wheel.
