Thanks for reaching out Sean,

The powered PowertraxPRO MX Hard Tonneau Cover # RT90842 can be opened manually if there's no power to automatically close. The cover has a manual override that allows you to retract it if the battery is dead or the electrical system is not working properly.

The RetraxPRO MX # RT80244 is a manual retractable cover, so it is always opened and closed by hand using the locking handle.

Are you considering the manual RetraxPRO MX or the powered PowertraxPRO MX? What do you typically haul in the bed of the truck?

You have answered my question regrading the manual over ride but, how do you re-engage to the locking system. I have mine unlocked because of power failure but now I cannot get the cover to attach to the system. The motor is running fine.

@LarryJ got it! Since you've already used the manual disconnect and the motor is running again, you should be able to re-engage the cover with the drive system. On the newer Retrax manual disconnect setup, locate the manual disconnect knob underneath the cover and turn it 1/4 turn back toward the engaged position. Then manually move the cover until it reconnects with the drive system. Retrax also provides an automatic method: with the cover still disengaged, operate the motor using the remote/keypad so the drive carriages move through the rails toward the stationary cover. Once the carriages reach the end of the cover, it should snap back into engagement. After it reconnects, run the cover fully open and fully closed to make sure everything is engaged correctly. Do you know approximately what year your PowertraxPRO MX was purchased?

@JamesD James- Thanks so much for the quick reply! I purchased the cover this year. I operate my cover through the Realtruck app on my phone. I will go back out (after it cools down) and work with it some more - its so hot here you cannot touch any thing.

@LarryJ No worries and I don't blame you for waiting until it cools down! With you purchasing the cover this year and you're operating it through the RealTruck app, you definitely have the newer setup we were discussing. Give that re-engagement steps a try when you get a chance. Let me know if you have any additional questions. If you don't mind me asking, what part of the country are you in?
