Are Tools Required to Remove Smooth Ride Transom Saver When Launching Boat

Updated 07/21/2026 | Published 07/18/2026

Question:

Im looking at the 40inch transom saver. I do not have the rubber keel wheel on my trailer and the cross bar is well under the boat. I have a light bar mandatory in California in the center of the back cross support. So - what my question is this - In mounting the bracket - is that bolt that is shown in the picture - does that hold the transom saver onto the bracket? Which means I have to bolt and unbolt the saver before and after every trip .. ???? Its confusing as to how the saver mounts to the bracket on the cross bar of the trailer ..

Hey Gus, when you install the 40 inch Transom Saver part # 315-FXI you wouldn't need to unbolt it from the trailer everytime you use it. You would remove the bungee from the motor and then pull the retaining pin from the trailer frame side and then leave the bracket that attaches to the trailer frame bolted and you'd be set. So what this means is you don't need to bring tools with you to the boat ramp when you go to launch your boat. What kind of boat do you have?

I just added the bracket to my Robalo trailer. I also don’t have a roller and had to install the bracket to the rear cross member. I also have a red light bar that is installed in the middle of the cross member. I installed the bracket above the red light. There was enough space above the red bar light for the bracket. There is a black rubber pad mounted on top of the cross member located in the middle. I had to trim a small piece off of the pad to make room for the bracket. I had to buy a longer bolt to secure the bracket to the cross member. It was about 3 1/2 inches long. In my opinion it all worked out fine.
